NBA’s wild West odds don’t match seeding

The Denver Nuggets are the defending NBA champions and +135 Western Conference favorites to return to the Finals, despite having the #2 seed. In fact, the betting board is anything but commensurate with seeding.

The Los Angeles Clippers are the #4 seed but have the second-shortest odds at +600. A large reason for that is that they would not have to face Denver until the conference finals. However, the Clips have a -110 series price against the Dallas Mavericks in the first round.

The Thunder own the West’s top seed and are the third favorite at +700. That’s in large part because they are the youngest team in the postseason.

Perhaps even more surprising is the Minnesota Timberwolves being the #3 seed and having the sixth-shortest Western Conference odds at +1000. In fact, sixth-seeded Phoenix is a slight -115 favorite over the T’Wolves in their first-round series.
