Where Can I Go Off-Roading In The USA?

On your next vacation, grab a 4×4 or an ATV, get off the beaten path, and experience the freedom and thrill of off-roading. Called off-roading because the trails are rocky, muddy and bumpy, you’ll be challenged to hone your driving skills while enjoying some of the most rugged and underrated scenery in the country.

Here are three of the most beautiful locations where you can go offroading in the U.S.

Moab – Utah

Moab is the most iconic off-roading destination in the country. The vast terrain means there are enough trails for every level of off-roader. The trails range in distance and time, with some trails being relatively easy, such as the Gemini Bridges trail, while others, like the Fins and Things route, are steeper and are designed for experienced drivers with rigs modified for off-roading. Whether you are off-roading for the first time or a hardcore, seasoned expert, a thrilling adeventure awaits you amid Moab’s stunning sandstone landscapes.

If you do not own an off-roading vehicle or opt not to transport your vehicle, Moab has plenty of options to rent a 4×4 specifically for the job. Guided off-road tours are also available.

Rubicon Trail – California

The Rubicon Trail is on every off-roader’s bucket list. This trail will take you 22 miles across the Sierra Nevada as you marvel at the stunning views of boulders, stone, and trees. Famous for its difficulty, the Rubicon Trail is the go-to trail for talented off-roaders to put their skills to the test. The 22 arduous miles typically take around five hours to complete, but with no traffic to contend with, you’ll love the freedom of the wilderness and the adrenaline-pumping challenge.

If you want to take on the Rubicon Trail, but you are not an expert off-road driver yet, do not fear. There are multi-day guided trips offered seasonally with certified trainers who will teach you all you need to know about driving in the Sierra Nevadas.

Oconee National Forest – Georgia

If you live in the southeastern portion of the U.S. and love off-roading, traveling to the Chattahoochee–Oconee National Forest is a must. Located in northern Georgia, the rolling hills and scenic mountains offer incredible views. Boasting more than 80 different trails ranging in skill, length, and difficulty, the Chattahoochee–Oconee National Forest has miles of of-froading trails that will satisfy off-roaders of all skill levels.

If you’re curious about giving the sport a try, here is a list of the best places to go off-roading in most states. Tackling local trails with geography familiar to you is a fantastic way to gain experience offroading. Before long, you’ll be ready to challenge yourself and when you do, Moab, The Rubicon Trail and the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest won’t disappoint.
