Animals In The Outfield

By Emilee White

Professional athletes everywhere await the day they get the chance to play in the big leagues. But could you imagine an animal upstaging your big day? Here are some of the top moments animals made their pro debuts.

The Cats of Major League Baseball

If you google search cats on the baseball field, you’ll find not one, not two, but … quite a few more than two moments when cats were running loose during games. Take for instance the time when a cat got loose in 2021 at Yankee Stadium. It was a moment worth remembering, but what’s better than a running cat disrupting a baseball game? A video of it in slow motion.

The star cat during the Dodgers at Rockies game during the 2021 season was definitely written by a woman.

Spider cat, spider cat. Does whatever a spider cat does. Which, apparently, is scaling a wall during a Miami Marlins game in 2017.

Dogs and their balls

If the MLB is for cats, soccer is for what? That’s right, dogs. But who let the dogs out? Who knows. One thing is for sure: never get between a dog and its ball.

This dog however didn’t just get the ball, it even tried to help score a goal.

Sometimes, there is one mission and one mission only for a dog: to catch the ball. Watch how at the 2012 Dunhill Links Championship, a dog stole Paul Casey’s ball.

Dogs aren’t partial to round balls, either.

SQUIRREL!

These little acorn addicts sure do know how to cause a disruption.

2011 must have been the year of the squirrel.

Modern-Day Dinosaurs

There must be something about golf because furry and scaly creatures alike visit the greens pretty often. Like this alligator in 2017.
