Waiver Wire Targets For NFL Week 5

By Ryan Bologna

As we head into week five of the NFL season, this has become a critical time to be quick on the waiver wire. With Javonte Williams out for the year with a torn ACL and Cordarrelle Patterson getting placed on IR, experts there are some obvious pickups to be made when it comes to running backs. We’re here to tell you who some of the top outlets recommend picking up.

Kenny Pickett is going to be the starter for the Steelers, and it shouldn’t be a surprise that he was mentioned by pretty much every outlet. The Pittsburgh offense has left a lot to be desired, but there is hope that Pickett can be a decent player out of the gate. He was regarded as the most pro-ready quarterback in the 2022 draft class. It won’t be easy against the Bills in week five, but hopefully Pickett settles in as the season goes on.

As mentioned before, the Javonte Williams and Cordarrelle Patterson injuries make for obvious choices at running back. Outlets are high on both Mike Boone and Latavius Murray from the Broncos. The same goes for Tyler Allgeier and Damien Williams with the Falcons. If you need some running back depth, all four of those guys could be worth a shot.

Kenny Pickett isn’t the only Steeler who is popular this week. Rookie wide receiver George Pickens was mentioned by four out of the five outlets. He flashed crazy upside with that circus catch against the Browns on Thursday Night Football a couple of weeks ago. There is hope that Pickens’ production goes up with improved quarterback play as the season goes along.

Once again Tyler Conklin is the popular tight end to pick up. He is getting more playing time than his teammate C.J. Uzomah, and his starting quarterback just returned last week. Conklin should retain a significant role in the Jets offense as the season goes along.
