Who Will Tame The Madness This March?

By Nick Savage

College basketball has been full of surprises this season with plenty of upsets and unexpected outcomes. However, some teams have consistently stood out from the rest, displaying incredible talent and skill throughout the season. Here are the top five college basketball teams this year.

Houston

The Houston Cougars have been one of the most consistent teams in college basketball, boasting an impressive record of 25-2, including a 13-1 conference record, and are currently ranked number one in the nation. Houston is known for its stifling defense, ranked No. 2 in the nation in both points allowed per game and opponents’ field goal percentage. With odds at +700 to win the tournament, some sportsbooks think that the Cougars are a safe bet. The Cougars balanced scoring attack featured four players who average double-digit points per game, making them a serious threat in the postseason. Maybe it’s the energy drinks or the cowboy boots, but Houston really knows how to bring it.

Alabama

Alabama has been one of the most dominant teams in the country this season. With a current record of 23-4, including a 13-1 conference record, Alabama has been led by a strong defense, holding opponents to just 37 percent shooting from the field, the third-best mark in the country. The Crimson Tide also have a talented offense, averaging 83.9 points per game. With odds at +800 to win, some sportsbooks think Alabama has a good chance to make waves in the NCAA Tournament.

Kansas

The Kansas Jayhawks have been a top team in college basketball for years and this season is no exception. With a record of 22-5, 10-4 in conference play, Kansas is known for its tough defense, allowing 61.7 points per game. The offense is led by a talented group of players who have contributed to the Jayhawks’ success throughout the season. With odds at +1100 to win the tournament, some sportsbooks think the Jayhawks could surprise everyone and take home the championship.

UCLA

UCLA has continued its success from last season, with a current record of 23-4, including a 14-2 record in conference play. Known for their strong defense, the Bruins have held opponents to just 41.9 percent shooting from the field. With a deep roster and experience from last year’s run to the Sweet 16, the Bruins are a team to watch in the coming weeks. With odds at +1400 to win, some sportsbooks have the Bruins making a deep run in the NCAA Tournament. It’s hard to say what the secret is, but maybe it’s all the sunny California weather.

Purdue

Purdue has been one of the biggest surprises of the season, with a record of 24-4, 13-4 in conference play. With a balanced attack on both sides of the court, Purdue has been able to maintain a high level of success throughout the season. Odds are at +1000 for Purdue to win, with some sportsbooks putting it as a dark horse in the NCAA Tournament. As the postseason approaches, the Boilermakers will look to capitalize on their team-oriented approach and a deep bench. Of course, it helps when you have a name that sounds like a superhero’s secret identity.

These five teams have consistently shown that they have what it takes to win at the highest level, with strong defenses, efficient offenses, and talented players. As the season enters its final stretch, it will be exciting to see who tames the Madess this year.
